psychology for the way you compete.
Better performance starts with understanding you: what brings out your best, what changes under pressure and what helps you move forward. Our one-to-one programmes and team workshops turn that insight into practical tools.

spotlight profiling
see your game
differently.
Every programme starts with Spotlight, a personality profile developed by Mindflick and used across elite sport and other high-performance settings. It explores your mindset and your behavioural style, so the work is built around you from the first session.
mindset
How you approach opportunities and risks
behavioural style
How you act and interact with others
powered by Mindflick
Your individual profile and comprehensive report inform a one-hour debrief with Sam. Together, you explore where your strengths serve you well, where they may become overplayed and when a different approach could help.
We then connect those insights with your own experiences, identifying practical ways to prepare, respond under pressure and communicate with your coach, teammates and the people around you. The aim is to give you more options in how you approach the demands of your sport.
what you receive
01
your profile.
You complete the Spotlight questionnaire online before you meet Sam. It maps your preferences across mindset and behavioural style.
02
your report.
A comprehensive personal report covering your strengths, your sources of confidence and how you tend to respond under pressure. It’s yours to keep.
03
your debrief.
One hour with Sam to make sense of the profile against your own experience, and agree what it means for how you prepare and compete.
your profile and comprehensive report
Yours to keep, and the starting point for your debrief with Sam.
understand your confidence
Explore where your confidence comes from, and how to draw on it when things get difficult.
recognise your pressure responses
Notice how your approach may change under pressure, and explore other ways to respond.
Spotlight describes preferences, not ability. There is no ideal profile.
For teams, everyone completes a profile and we use them together, so the group can see how it communicates, adapts and performs under pressure.

frequently asked questions.
Can’t see your question? Email hello@headsetslab.com or ask on a discovery call.
Who are your services for?
Athletes, teams and high performers who want to prepare and compete well under pressure. Sam has supported performers from Olympic and Paralympic programmes to emerging talent, and competitive golfers work with us through Headsets Golf Lab.
How do I know if support would help?
You don’t need to be struggling. Support is useful whether you want to sharpen how you compete, such as your focus, confidence and decisions under pressure, or stay ahead of stress before it affects your performance.
A good place to start is the Headsets Scan. It’s free, takes under 2 minutes and gives you a picture of your strengths and challenges to bring to a discovery call.
What is Spotlight?
Spotlight is a personality profile developed by Mindflick. It explores your mindset and behavioural style, and you receive a comprehensive report and a one-hour debrief with Sam. It describes preferences, not ability, and it informs our conversations without defining you.
What happens on a discovery call?
It’s a free conversation with Sam about your goals, your circumstances and what you’d like to work on. You’ll leave with a clear recommendation and an explanation of scope, price and commitment. There’s no obligation to go further.
How does the work run?
Assessment builds the picture: a needs analysis, your Spotlight profile and debrief, and a personal performance roadmap. Development consultations then help you put your priorities into practice and review what’s working. A final review consolidates what to carry forward.
Most programmes run for 8–16 weeks. Sessions are online by default and scheduled around your competition calendar, and in-person work can be agreed where it helps.
Do you work with teams as well as individuals?
Yes. Team work usually starts with a half-day Spotlight workshop. Everyone completes a profile beforehand, then we use them to explore how the group communicates, adapts and performs under pressure. Further team or individual support can follow, scoped to what you need.
Will you share my information?
Trust is the cornerstone of our work. Sam is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and works to its ethical code on confidentiality. What you say in sessions stays private, within the safeguarding and legal limits Sam explains at the start.
If someone else funds the work, or you’re part of a team or organisation, we agree clear boundaries before we begin about what, if anything, is shared. You remain the client.
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the scope of the work and are confirmed in writing before you book. We’ll talk through the options and fees on your discovery call.
Do you offer one-off sessions?
The shortest way to start is assessment: a needs analysis, your Spotlight profile and debrief, and a written roadmap that’s yours to keep, with no obligation to continue. Single consultations are available to clients who have completed a programme.
Do you treat mental health conditions?
No. Our remit is performance psychology and performance lifestyle support. Wellbeing is central to how we work, but we don’t provide clinical assessment or treatment. If a clinical need comes up, we’ll discuss an appropriate referral with you, and whether performance work should continue alongside it.
